| Stress
management usually involves a complete life review during which we
identify what is stressful in your life and how you deal with it.
It centres around the idea that a certain amount of stress is desirable
and would probably be better described as stimulation. However, if
we are over-stimulated we burn out, if we are under-stimulated we
rust out. So it is all about creating a balanced lifestyle and a balanced
approach. In the bank balance of life we must pay in before we can
draw out. This idea is reflected in the saying all work and
no play makes Jack a dull boy!
In
stress management we may focus on specific things like time management,
anger management, communication skills, assertiveness skills, etc.
Stress management activities are generally dovetailed with elements
from CBT to ensure that wonky thinking and beliefs arent intensifying
a stressed response. You may also have to experiment with having
fun again, something that we often forget about when we get stuck
on the rocky road of stress!
